China Warns Against Japan’s Taiwan Stance, Urges Global Vigilance

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning called for international vigilance against militarism revival during Wednesday's press briefing, responding to recent remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about potential military intervention in the Taiwan Strait. Analysts note this marks the first explicit linkage of a "Taiwan contingency" to Japan's national security by a sitting Japanese leader.

Mao emphasized that historical patterns show Japanese militarism has historically used claims of "survival-threatening situations" to justify aggression. The statement comes as nations commemorate the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War victory, with China urging collective maintenance of the post-war international order.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Beijing's position on cross-strait relations, stating: "Safeguarding peace in the Taiwan Strait remains crucial for regional stability. Any external interference will be met with resolute opposition." Observers suggest the comments reflect growing concerns about shifting security alignments in East Asia this year.
