Mainland Expands Entry Ports for Taiwan Residents to 100, Offers New Travel Perks

The Chinese mainland will expand the number of ports authorized to issue single-entry travel permits for Taiwan residents to 100 starting November 20, the National Immigration Administration announced. First-time visitors from the island of Taiwan will gain free access to over 3,000 scenic sites and exemption from permit fees.

Streamlined Entry Process

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, confirmed during a November 19 press conference that Taiwan residents without pre-approved five-year permits can now obtain single-entry permits at designated ports within 30 minutes using valid identification. Approved travelers may stay for up to three months.

Enhanced Cross-Strait Connectivity

Residents entering via Fujian's 'Mini Three Links' routes can apply for permits online or at port counters, collecting documents upon arrival. Zhu emphasized the mainland's adherence to privacy laws, assuring no markings are placed on Taiwan travel documents.

Cultural Ties and Winter Tourism

Zhu encouraged visits to northeastern and northwestern regions for winter sports and cultural activities, aligning with efforts to improve travel services. The 11th Cross-Strait Cultural Forum in Beijing last week highlighted shared cultural roots, with plans to deepen exchanges following the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

"Strengthening cultural understanding and emotional bonds is key to peaceful reunification," Zhu stated, underscoring ongoing initiatives to foster unity across the Taiwan Strait.
