Italian Scholar Outlines China’s Key Growth Drivers for 2026-2030

As China prepares for its next phase of development, insights from international experts shed light on the nation's strategic priorities. The recently concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has set the stage for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), a blueprint critical to achieving modernization goals by 2035.

Silvia Menegazzi, a political science scholar at Rome's Luiss Guido Carli University, identifies three core growth engines in the upcoming plan: advanced manufacturing and technology, domestic consumption expansion, and accelerated green transition. These pillars build on China's decade-long evolution toward sustainable development models that have gained global attention.

"China's approach to balancing economic growth with environmental priorities over the past 20 years has redefined conventional development paradigms," Menegazzi noted, emphasizing the plan's potential to influence both regional economies and international climate initiatives.

The 15th Five-Year Plan comes at a pivotal moment as China seeks to consolidate its technological advancements while addressing energy transition challenges. Analysts suggest these priorities will shape Asia's economic landscape and create new opportunities for cross-border collaboration in clean energy and smart manufacturing.
