Soar Through Zhangjiajie: Wingsuit Pilot Captures Gravity-Defying Flight

Professional wingsuit flyer Zhang Shupeng has redefined adventure tourism in China's Hunan Province, offering a bird's-eye perspective of Zhangjiajie's iconic quartz-sandstone pillars through his daring aerial maneuvers. The 2025 footage reveals how pilots navigate updrafts and narrow ravines at speeds exceeding 150 km/h, transforming the UNESCO Global Geopark into a natural extreme sports arena.

"Every flight is a conversation with the mountain," Zhang told KhabarAsia, describing how morning thermals create optimal conditions for the 30-second descents. Local authorities have implemented new safety protocols this year, including real-time weather monitoring systems at launch points, to accommodate growing interest in adventure tourism.

While wingsuit flying remains accessible only to certified professionals, visitors to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park can now experience simulated flights through VR installations at the park's newly upgraded visitor center. The park recorded a 22% increase in foreign tourist arrivals this November compared to 2024, with adventure tourism driving much of the growth.
