Irish Actor Praises Epic Scale of Chinese Filmmaking

Irish actor Tom Fenton, who starred in the 2025 historical drama Dongji Rescue, recently shared his unique perspective on China's film industry after eight years of working in the country. The movie, released earlier this year, dramatizes the 1942 rescue of 384 British POWs by Chinese fishermen after the sinking of the Japanese troop ship Lisbon Maru near Zhejiang's Dongji Island.

"The scale of production here is unlike anything I've experienced before," Fenton told KhabarAsia.com during an interview. "From intricate period sets to coordinated crowd scenes involving hundreds of performers – it's really cool to be part of that kind of thing."

The actor's comments highlight China's growing influence in global cinema, with the country's film industry projected to surpass $15 billion in box office revenue this year. Dongji Rescue has been praised for its historical accuracy and technical achievements, particularly in underwater filming sequences.
