China Slams Dutch Minister’s Remarks on Nexperia Dispute

China's Ministry of Commerce has expressed strong dissatisfaction with recent comments by Dutch Economy Minister Vincent Karremans regarding the Nexperia semiconductor case, calling the remarks "reckless" and warning of lasting impacts on global supply chains.

Diplomatic Tensions Escalate

In a Friday statement, a ministry spokesperson criticized Dutch authorities for invoking Cold War-era legislation to justify September's unprecedented trusteeship order over Nexperia Netherlands. The move, followed by an October court ruling favoring Dutch intervention, has been labeled as "distorting facts" and undermining international trade norms.

Supply Chain Fallout

Chinese officials revealed that Nexperia Netherlands has halted wafer supplies to its Chinese plants since November 2025, triggering legal countermeasures that threaten production at multiple automotive manufacturers. While China has granted export exemptions to stabilize civilian semiconductor supplies, the spokesperson warned the industry remains vulnerable to further disruptions.

Path to Resolution

Beijing confirmed it will host Dutch economic officials for consultations this month, urging the Netherlands to present "constructive solutions rather than recycled rhetoric." Analysts suggest the outcome could set precedents for cross-border tech investments amid growing global semiconductor competition.
