China's Ministry of National Defense issued a stern warning to Japan on Friday, November 14, 2025, following controversial remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding potential military involvement in cross-strait affairs. Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin emphasized that any intervention would result in a "crushing defeat" for Japan.
The warning came after Takaichi suggested the Japanese Self-Defense Force might exercise collective self-defense rights if tensions escalate between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region. Jiang condemned the statements as "egregious" and "dangerous," stressing they violate the one-China principle and historical bilateral agreements.
"The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair," Jiang reiterated during the press conference. "Any attempt to use force or support secessionist forces will meet resolute opposition from the People's Liberation Army."
Analysts note the timing coincides with increased diplomatic activity ahead of the 2025 APEC Leaders’ Meeting, with cross-strait stability remaining a key concern for regional security. The Chinese government reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful reunification while warning against external interference.
