The diplomatic clash follows remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanaen Takaichi suggesting potential military involvement in cross-strait affairs. Lin emphasized that such comments violate the one-China principle and the foundational agreements governing China-Japan relations, stating: "These actions constitute gross interference in China's internal affairs and pose serious risks to regional stability."
The spokesperson highlighted historical sensitivities, urging Japan to "thoroughly reflect on its past crimes" while reaffirming Beijing's position that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of Chinese territory since ancient times. Analysts suggest the confrontation could impact bilateral trade negotiations scheduled for early 2026.
