Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong concluded a three-day visit to Guinea this week, reaffirming Beijing's commitment to deepening cooperation with the West African nation. As President Xi Jinping's special representative, Liu attended the inauguration of the Simandou iron ore mine project—a landmark initiative set to boost Guinea's economy and bilateral ties.
During meetings with Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya, Liu highlighted the project as a symbol of nearly seven decades of China-Guinea collaboration. "The Simandou development exemplifies our shared vision for modernization and mutual growth," Liu stated, referencing outcomes from the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
President Doumbouya welcomed expanded Chinese investment, pledging to create favorable conditions for cross-sector partnerships. The leaders also discussed enhancing international coordination to safeguard sovereignty and development interests, aligning with Guinea's Simandou 2040 strategic plan.
The visit included the launch of the China-Africa Joint Medical Center in Guinea, underscoring health cooperation as a pillar of bilateral relations. Analysts note the Simandou project's completion positions Guinea to become a global iron ore exporter while advancing China's resource security goals.
