As urban populations increasingly seek connections with nature, the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) unveiled its 2025 list of "World Famous Tourism Mountains" during its annual conference in Guiyang on November 12. The selection highlights geological wonders combining ecological significance with cultural value.
Five Chinese landmarks made the prestigious list: Anhui's iconic Huangshan with its granite peaks and "sea of clouds," Sichuan's Wawu Mountain known for alpine meadows, Hunan's Mount Xuefengshan, Guangdong's crimson Danxiashan, and Hebei's towering Zhangshiyan. The global list expanded with Argentina's granite spired Mount Fitz Roy, Saudi Arabia's Soudah Mountain in the Asir Highlands, and Russia's mineral-rich Belokurikha Mountain Range.
"These mountains represent sustainable tourism models that balance conservation with accessibility," stated an IMTA spokesperson. The designation comes as Asia's adventure travel sector grows 18% year-on-year, driven by demand for geotourism experiences.
