China Urges Global Unity to Protect Tropical Rainforests at Brazil Summit

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang called for international collaboration to safeguard tropical rainforests during a high-profile luncheon hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday. The event, focused on launching the 'Tropical Forests Forever Facility' fund, brought together leaders from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Suriname, Colombia, France, the United Nations, and the World Bank Group.

Speaking as President Xi Jinping's special representative, Ding emphasized that rainforest conservation is "a common cause of all humanity" requiring coordinated action. He outlined China's domestic efforts, including establishing the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park and boosting funding for ecological protection, which have simultaneously advanced environmental goals and local economic development.

Ding urged developed nations to fulfill financial commitments under UN climate frameworks to help developing countries combat deforestation. He also proposed expanding multilateral platforms for knowledge-sharing and technology transfer, reaffirming China's willingness to strengthen partnerships in global environmental governance.

The remarks align with President Xi's vision of balancing ecological preservation with sustainable growth, a model gaining traction as nations grapple with climate challenges. With rainforests absorbing 15% of global carbon emissions annually, this initiative signals renewed momentum for cross-border climate cooperation ahead of key UN environmental summits.
