China, Georgia Strengthen Strategic Ties Amid Growing Cooperation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with Georgia during high-level talks in Beijing on Friday, marking a new chapter in the nations' 33-year diplomatic relationship.

Foundations of Friendship

Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the enduring partnership: "China and Georgia are good friends and good partners, with mutual respect and trust remaining the cornerstone of our relations since 1991."

Strategic Partnership and Economic Opportunities

The dialogue highlighted progress in infrastructure development and digital economy collaboration under China's Belt and Road Initiative. Wang noted Georgia's growing role as a Eurasian trade hub, with bilateral trade reaching $1.48 billion in 2023 – a 23% year-on-year increase.

Cultural and Regional Collaboration

Both ministers agreed to enhance people-to-people exchanges, including tourism initiatives and educational partnerships. The talks also addressed regional security cooperation, particularly in maintaining stability in the South Caucasus.
