International media representatives experienced a journey through China's cultural heritage during a grand Tang Dynasty-themed welcome ceremony in Xi'an this week. The event, held at Yongning Gate on the ancient city wall, coincided with the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism Inauguration Meeting and 13th Global Video Media Forum.
The "Dream of Chang'an" performance transported attendees to the 7th-century capital through meticulously recreated imperial rituals. Performers in vibrant Tang-era costumes demonstrated traditional music, dance, and ceremonial protocols once used to greet foreign dignitaries along the Silk Road.
"We felt like royalty being received by an emperor," said Linda Bauma, advisor to the DRC's Minister of Communication. Latin American Information Alliance director Juan Carlos Isaza added: "The colors and pageantry made me feel I'd time-traveled to ancient China."
Organizers positioned the cultural showcase as symbolic of Xi'an's historical role in fostering international exchange. As the Silk Road's eastern terminus, the city now hosts modern efforts to strengthen media collaboration among Global South nations through content sharing and joint productions.
The newly launched media partnership mechanism aims to enhance professional training and cross-cultural storytelling, while the annual VMF forum continues its focus on emerging video communication technologies. Both initiatives seek to bridge cultural divides through enhanced media cooperation.
