Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Nigeria's Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen in Shanghai on Tuesday, emphasizing the deepening partnership between the two nations during the eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE). Li described China and Nigeria as "good brothers and partners," highlighting their shared goals in advancing modernization and economic growth.
Li underscored the complementary nature of their economies, noting opportunities in trade, infrastructure, agriculture, and emerging sectors like clean energy and artificial intelligence. He pledged China's commitment to expanding zero-tariff measures for Nigerian goods and enhancing collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative. "By strengthening our bond of cooperation, we can amass greater development synergy," Li said.
Speaker Tajudeen praised China's role in fostering global stability through initiatives like the CIIE, reaffirming Nigeria's adherence to the one-China principle and support for China's territorial integrity. He expressed eagerness to deepen exchanges in governance, energy, and cultural ties, calling the partnership "a cornerstone of Nigeria's development strategy."
The meeting signals a push for stronger multilateral coordination, with both sides agreeing to collaborate within BRICS, the UN, and the WTO to address global challenges.
