Xi, Canada Seek to Reset Ties at APEC Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed Beijing's readiness to collaborate with Canada in revitalizing bilateral relations during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday. The leaders met on the sidelines of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, as the two nations mark dual diplomatic milestones.

"China stands prepared to work with Canada to steer our relations onto a path of healthy, stable, and sustainable development," Xi stated, emphasizing the potential benefits for both nations' citizens. The talks coincided with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership establishment.

The meeting occurred amid evolving global economic dynamics, with APEC members collectively representing nearly 40% of world trade. Analysts suggest renewed China-Canada cooperation could influence supply chain resilience and green technology development across the Asia-Pacific region.
