Xi Jinping Unveils Vision for Sustainable Asia-Pacific at APEC Meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a three-pronged strategy to foster sustainable development across the Asia-Pacific region during his address at the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea. The proposals aim to strengthen regional cooperation in digital innovation, green energy transitions, and inclusive economic growth.

Digital Innovation as Growth Catalyst

President Xi emphasized unlocking the potential of smart technologies, announcing China's readiness to collaborate with APEC members through a proposed World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. "Enhancing AI literacy and bridging digital divides will give our region fresh competitive advantages," he stated, highlighting ongoing efforts to fund digitalization projects via the APEC Support Fund.

Green Transition Roadmap

The Chinese leader urged members to prioritize low-carbon development, citing China's commitments to clean energy initiatives. "We must build a new paradigm where sustainability drives progress," Xi said, referencing China's financial backing for green transition programs across APEC economies.

Inclusive Growth Priorities

Xi called for deepened cooperation in SMEs, food security, and health systems to ensure balanced development. He advocated for APEC-led pilot programs implementing the WTO's e-commerce agreement, stressing the need to "leverage our traditional strengths in economic and technical collaboration."

The proposals come as Asia-Pacific economies navigate post-pandemic recovery and global supply chain realignments, positioning technological and ecological cooperation as key drivers of regional stability.
