Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang emphasized that 'no amount of weapons purchases by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities can alter the cross-strait military balance or change Taiwan's inevitable reunification with the motherland.' Zhang criticized the DPP for 'prioritizing partisan interests over the welfare of Taiwan residents' through its engagement with foreign powers.
The remarks follow revelations about US-Taiwan discussions on joint weapons development and arms sales. Zhang urged Washington to recognize the 'high sensitivity' of such exchanges, stating: 'The US must strictly adhere to the one-China principle and immediately cease military collusion with the Taiwan region.'
