China Urges Global Unity, Multilateralism at Beijing Forum

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for strengthened international cooperation and adherence to multilateral frameworks during his keynote speech at the Lanting Forum in Beijing. Addressing global leaders and policymakers, Wang outlined China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) as a cornerstone for fostering stability amid geopolitical turbulence.

The GGI, alongside China’s Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives, aims to address pressing challenges such as economic inequality and climate change. Wang noted that over 140 countries and international organizations have endorsed these efforts, reflecting widespread support for collective action. “The clearest message of the GGI is to gather the strength of unity,” he stated, underscoring China’s commitment to equitable global governance.

Wang urged nations to uphold the UN Charter, fulfill international obligations, and prioritize common development. He highlighted the need to amplify the voices of the Global South and integrate diverse stakeholders—including governments, businesses, and civil society—to enhance governance effectiveness.

Referencing China’s recent 20th CPC Central Committee plenum, Wang linked domestic modernization efforts to global opportunities. “A China advancing its modernization will create broad prospects for shared growth,” he said, positioning the country as a proactive contributor to peace and development.
