Ritan Park’s Chrysanthemum Display Captivates Beijing Visitors

Beijing's historic Ritan Park has transformed into a kaleidoscope of autumn colors as thousands of chrysanthemums reach peak bloom. The annual floral exhibition, now in its final weeks through October, draws both local residents and international travelers to witness one of the Chinese capital's most cherished seasonal traditions.

More than 200 chrysanthemum varieties create intricate displays across the park's 20-hectare grounds, ranging from delicate spider-form blossoms to robust pompon varieties. The outdoor exhibition, which began in late September, showcases the flower's cultural significance in China – where it's long symbolized longevity and rejuvenation.

"This display represents decades of horticultural expertise," explained park curator Zhang Wei, noting that some specimens require three years of careful cultivation. "The chrysanthemum isn't just a flower here – it's living heritage."

Visitors can explore themed installations blending traditional Chinese garden design with modern floral artistry. Early mornings see photography enthusiasts capturing dew-kissed petals, while weekends bring families enjoying picnic lunches amid the blooms.

With Beijing's autumn temperatures averaging 15°C (59°F), the park has become a favored destination for travelers seeking both natural beauty and cultural immersion. The chrysanthemum show remains free to the public, though park officials recommend weekday visits to avoid crowds.
