Geng outlined China's Global Governance Initiative, which prioritizes sovereign equality, rule-based diplomacy, and inclusive development. New Tools for Peacebuilding
A highlight of China's recent contributions is the International Mediation Institute, launched in Hong Kong in October. As the first intergovernmental body focused solely on mediation, it aims to provide neutral platforms for conflict resolution. The institute has already drawn interest from Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern nations seeking alternatives to traditional arbitration methods.
Balancing Security and Development
The envoy reiterated Beijing's opposition to unilateral sanctions, advocating instead for UN Security Council measures that prioritize political solutions over punitive actions. This approach aligns with China's broader emphasis on developmental peacebuilding, linking infrastructure investment and poverty reduction to conflict prevention.
