Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with Apple CEO Tim Cook in Beijing on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of stable U.S.-China economic relations while addressing recent trade challenges. The talks focused on fostering cooperation amid growing U.S. restrictions on technology and trade.
Wang highlighted China's efforts to stabilize bilateral ties through four rounds of economic discussions since May but criticized recent U.S. measures as "severely harming China's interests." He urged Washington to engage in "equal dialogue" to resolve disputes and create a predictable environment for businesses.
"China will steadfastly pursue high-level opening up and improve its business environment," Wang stated, inviting Apple to expand its investments. Cook affirmed Apple's commitment to China, calling the U.S.-China economic relationship "critical for global stability" and pledging to support "win-win cooperation."
The meeting underscores China's push to retain foreign tech partnerships despite geopolitical friction. Apple operates 46 retail stores in the Chinese mainland and relies heavily on regional supply chains.
