China Demands UK Lift Sanctions on Firms Amid Russia Ties

China has called on the United Kingdom to immediately revoke sanctions targeting 11 Chinese entities and individuals, escalating diplomatic tensions over alleged links to Russia's energy and defense sectors. The UK government claims the sanctioned groups provided critical materials supporting Moscow's military-industrial activities amid the Ukraine conflict.

The Chinese Embassy in London condemned the measures as "unilateral actions lacking legal basis" that harm Chinese enterprises' rights. "China has always adhered to lawful and compliant business practices," a spokesperson stated, emphasizing Beijing's "objective and impartial" position on promoting peace in Ukraine.

While maintaining strict controls on dual-use exports, Chinese officials argue that normal trade between Chinese and Russian companies should not face "unlawful interference." Analysts suggest the dispute reflects growing friction between Western sanctions regimes and China's strategic partnerships.

Business leaders warn the sanctions could complicate cross-border investments, with one Shanghai-based trade expert noting: "This creates uncertainty for multinationals navigating both Asian and European markets." The development comes as global investors monitor how geopolitical alignments impact supply chains across Asia.
