China Sees 48.3% Surge in Visa-Free Entries, Hits 7.2M in Q3 2025

China welcomed 7.246 million foreign nationals under visa-free policies in the third quarter of 2025, a 48.3% year-on-year increase, according to data released by the National Immigration Administration on Thursday. The sharp rise highlights China's growing appeal as a destination for global business, tourism, and cultural exchange amid eased entry protocols.

Analysts attribute the spike to streamlined visa-free arrangements for short-term business travelers, transit passengers, and tourists from over a dozen countries, including expanded 15-day visa-free access for citizens of France, Germany, and Italy. The rebound follows China's post-pandemic efforts to revitalize international exchanges and position itself as a hub for cross-border collaboration.

"This growth reflects confidence in China's economic stability and its role in global supply chains," said a spokesperson for the administration. Sectors like luxury retail, hospitality, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) have reported increased activity, with Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou leading in visitor numbers.

For Asian diaspora communities, the policy shift has eased family reunions and heritage tourism, while investors eye opportunities in China's consumer markets and tech-driven industries. The surge coincides with cultural initiatives like the Silk Road International Arts Festival, further boosting soft-power engagement.

As regional rivals like Japan and Southeast Asian nations relax visa rules, China's latest figures underscore its competitive edge in attracting global talent and capital. With APEC members set to discuss streamlined travel frameworks in November, stakeholders anticipate sustained momentum in cross-border mobility.
