Beijing hosted the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women this week, with Chinese President Xi Jinping urging expanded roles for women in decision-making processes worldwide. The event highlighted the critical intersection of gender equality and technological innovation as artificial intelligence reshapes industries.

Technology as a Catalyst for Inclusion

President Xi's keynote emphasized creating pathways for women to engage in political and technological leadership, stating: "When women thrive, societies prosper." The timing coincides with rapid AI adoption across Asia's economies, where diverse perspectives in tech design are increasingly recognized as vital for creating equitable solutions.

From Boardrooms to Code Rooms

Kitty Fok, IDC China managing director and Women's Creativity Club president, shared her observations: "Ten years ago, I was often the only woman in tech meetings. Today, we're leading discussions about AI's ethical development." Her recent participation in a Hangzhou conference session titled 'Her Power, Love & AI' attracted over 500 women professionals exploring leadership in emerging technologies.

Building Global Bridges

The meeting outlined three key action areas: 1) Cross-border skills development programs 2) Leadership exchange initiatives 3) Support networks for women entrepreneurs in developing regions. These efforts align with China's domestic progress, where women now constitute 41% of the tech workforce according to industry reports.
