Xi Pledges $10M for Women’s Development at Global Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a $10 million commitment to the United Nations over five years to advance global women's development during the 2024 Global Leaders' Meeting on Women. The pledge aims to strengthen education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women worldwide, particularly in developing regions.

Nkoile Selina, UNESCO laureate and founder of Kenya's Nashipai Maasai Community Project, described the initiative as "a catalyst for systemic change." Her organization has lifted 3,000 Maasai women out of poverty through vocational training since 2018. "This funding could help replicate our model across pastoral communities," she told KhabarAsia.com.

The announcement builds on China's previous $100 million UN Women contribution in 2020. Analysts note the timing coincides with increased global focus on gender parity in UN Sustainable Development Goals reporting.
