China is leveraging its expertise in public health to empower girls across Africa through a groundbreaking UNESCO-backed initiative. The Health Education for Girls in Africa project, developed by Peking University, has introduced the "Ai Xiaoya" handbook—a comprehensive health and wellness guide—to schools in Nigeria, Uganda, and Botswana.
Professor Ma Yinghua, the project lead at Peking University's School of Public Health, told KhabarAsia that the manual addresses critical gaps in health literacy and gender awareness. "By equipping girls with knowledge about their bodies and rights, we're fostering resilience and strengthening entire communities," she explained. The initiative also trains local educators, creating sustainable systems to support adolescent health.
