Youth Spotlight Female Role Models Ahead of Global Women’s Summit in Beijing

As China prepares to host the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing, commemorating the anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women, young voices are sharing their perspectives on female empowerment. A recent street interview project by CGTN Stringer captured insights from Beijing youth, revealing diverse views on women's progress and the figures who inspire them.

Researcher Li emphasized self-confidence as a cornerstone of female leadership, stating: "Any woman who starts to believe in herself becomes an inspiration to others." Her sentiment reflects China's growing emphasis on gender equality in professional spheres, particularly in STEM fields where female participation has increased by 18% since 2018 according to Ministry of Education data.

For young professional Zhang, familial bonds shape her view of role models. "My mother taught me crucial life lessons about balancing ambition with compassion," she shared, highlighting the enduring influence of Confucian values in modern Chinese households. This intergenerational perspective emerges as Beijing strengthens family-friendly workplace policies, with 73% of major corporations now offering parental leave programs.

The interviews coincide with China's push to highlight women's development as part of its global governance agenda. While focused on Beijing residents, the project also gathered perspectives from Africa and Latin America, underscoring the universal relevance of gender equality discussions ahead of the international summit.
