China, Switzerland Strengthen Strategic Dialogue Amid Global Challenges

China and Switzerland reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and upholding multilateralism during high-level talks in Bellinzona on Friday, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of mutual trust and dialogue as both nations navigate an increasingly complex global landscape.

Celebrating Milestones, Building Bridges

Wang, speaking at the fourth round of China-Switzerland Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue, highlighted how the two countries have maintained "high-level exchanges and continuously deepened mutually beneficial cooperation" since establishing ties in 1949. The veteran diplomat framed the relationship as "an example of peaceful coexistence between nations with different social systems."

Shared Commitments in Turbulent Times

With the UN's founding principles as a backdrop, Wang stressed the urgency of international collaboration: "Today, humanity faces choices between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation." He praised Switzerland's role in hosting UN agencies and expressed China's willingness to jointly promote "a fairer global governance system."

Swiss Support for Key Principles

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis reiterated Bern's adherence to the one-China policy while welcoming China's Global Governance Initiative. "As global dynamics shift," Cassis noted, "Switzerland values China's role in addressing climate change and fostering mediation through international institutions."

The dialogue concluded with both sides pledging to enhance cooperation in green technology, multilateral diplomacy, and conflict resolution mechanisms.
