China Backs Middle East Peace Efforts, Urges Two-State Solution

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to Middle East stability during a joint press conference with Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis on Friday, emphasizing the urgent need for a 'genuine, comprehensive, and lasting ceasefire' in Gaza.

Ceasefire and Humanitarian Priorities

Wang welcomed the recent Israel-Hamas prisoner exchange agreement as a first step, while urging intensified efforts to address Gaza's humanitarian crisis. 'The international community must work collectively to restore regional stability through concrete actions,' stated the senior Chinese diplomat, who also serves on the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau.

Palestinian Sovereignty Central to Peace

The foreign minister stressed that lasting peace requires upholding the principle of 'the Palestinians governing Palestine,' noting that any Gaza arrangements must reflect residents' will. Wang reiterated China's long-standing support for the two-state solution, stating: 'Only through an independent Palestinian state can we resolve historical injustices and create conditions for peaceful coexistence.'

Multilateral Cooperation Framework

China pledged to collaborate with Switzerland and other nations through international platforms to advance Middle East peace initiatives. Wang's remarks come as global powers seek to prevent regional escalation while addressing immediate humanitarian needs.
