As the United Nations marks its 80th year, the need for inclusive multilateralism amid geopolitical shifts has taken center stage. In a recent BizTalk episode on CGTN, host Zheng Junfeng sat down with Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the UN Global Compact (UNGC), to discuss how businesses can align with sustainable development goals (SDGs) and foster global cooperation.
Ojiambo emphasized the UNGC’s role in guiding companies to adopt ethical practices, reduce environmental footprints, and promote social equity. “The private sector must be a driving force for equitable progress,” she stated, highlighting initiatives like climate action and gender equality in supply chains.
The dialogue also explored China’s contributions to global development through frameworks such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Global Development Initiative (GDI). These efforts, Ojiambo noted, align with the UN’s 2030 Agenda by addressing infrastructure gaps and fostering cross-border partnerships. “Collaboration between nations and businesses is key to bridging development divides,” she added.
With over 20,000 companies participating in the UNGC, the discussion underscored the growing emphasis on corporate accountability and the UN’s evolving role in balancing economic growth with sustainability.
