China, South Korea Pledge Closer Ties Amid APEC Collaboration

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during a phone call on Tuesday, emphasizing mutual trust and regional stability. The dialogue highlighted both nations' roles as key neighbors and partners in fostering economic cooperation across Asia.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed China's prioritization of its relationship with South Korea. He called for enhanced collaboration in advancing multilateral trade systems and supporting the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) initiative. With China and South Korea set to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2023 and 2024 respectively, Wang urged joint efforts to promote solidarity and uphold consensus within the Asia-Pacific community.

Cho echoed these sentiments, underscoring South Korea's dedication to deepening high-level exchanges and leveraging APEC platforms to expand cooperation. Both ministers agreed on the importance of safeguarding regional peace and prosperity through sustained dialogue.

The discussion signals a shared vision for addressing global economic challenges while reinforcing Asia's growing influence in shaping international trade frameworks.
