Fukushima Fishermen Face New Crisis Over Nuclear Wastewater Discharge Plan

The earthquake and tsunami of 12 years ago had a devastating impact on the lives of people in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture. Among those most severely affected were the region’s fishermen, who for a decade were unable to ply their trade.

Now, the plan to discharge the contaminated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea has cast another dark shadow over their future.

“We won’t be able to sell our catch,” says fisherman Haruo Ono, expressing the fears shared by many in his community.
