Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) marked the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with vibrant celebrations on Wednesday, showcasing regional stability and development under the "one country, two systems" principle.
A solemn flag-raising ceremony at Golden Lotus Square drew crowds as the national flag and Macao SAR flag were hoisted to the anthem. The event set the tone for a grand reception later at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial Hub, where SAR Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai outlined Macao's progress.
"Our economy maintains stable growth while advancing high-quality development," Sam stated, emphasizing achievements including successful legislative elections and national security education initiatives. The SAR leader highlighted efforts to strengthen cooperation with Hengqin – a strategic Zhuhai island development zone – as key to economic diversification.
Recent milestones such as commemorations of wartime victories and improved social welfare programs were credited with maintaining social harmony. Sam reaffirmed commitments to innovative governance models and cross-border integration, positioning Macao as a bridge between Chinese and Portuguese-speaking markets.
