Israel Blocks Displaced Palestinians’ Return to Northern Gaza Amid Escalation

The Israeli military has closed Gaza's Al-Rasheed coastal road, severing the primary connection between the enclave's north and south, in a move humanitarian groups warn will exacerbate one of the world's most acute displacement crises. The route, temporarily reopened during a January 2025 ceasefire, had allowed limited movement until Wednesday's announcement by army spokesperson Avichai Adraee.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

With 1.9 million Gazans already displaced since conflict reignited in October 2023, the closure effectively traps families in the south while isolating northern residents from critical aid. UN agencies report dwindling food and medical supplies in the north as winter approaches.

Military Offensive Intensifies

The decision coincides with Israel's expanded ground operations in Gaza City, described by military officials as their 'most intense urban combat' to date. Tanks have reportedly entered multiple neighborhoods as forces target Hamas positions, though civilian infrastructure continues to sustain collateral damage.

While Israel maintains the campaign aims to recover hostages and dismantle militant networks, local health authorities report over 200 casualties in the past week alone. International mediators continue pushing for renewed ceasefire talks.
