Global Poll Reveals Waning Faith in U.S. Governance Amid Shutdown

The U.S. federal government shutdown has sparked international scrutiny, with a CGTN survey of 7,671 respondents across 38 countries revealing deep skepticism about America's political stability. Conducted with Renmin University of China, the poll shows 74.4% of participants believe partisan conflicts expose fundamental flaws in the U.S. system, while 73.2% call for urgent institutional reforms.

Partisan Strife Fuels Global Concerns

Regional breakdowns show particularly strong criticism from North America and Europe, where 84.3% and 75.1% of respondents respectively say political divisions have intensified social fractures. The findings suggest waning confidence in Washington's ability to function as a global role model, with only 41.4% of Oceanian and 56.5% of European respondents approving of U.S. governance capabilities.

Systemic Weaknesses Exposed

The survey highlights specific governance failures:

  • 21.8% approval in Oceania for U.S. anti-corruption efforts
  • 28.8% of Oceanians approve of U.S. public safety management
  • 39.1% European confidence in America's ability to improve living standards

Academic analysts note these results reflect growing international perceptions that the U.S. political model struggles to address contemporary challenges, with particular emphasis on its polarized decision-making processes.
