Anisimova Outlasts Zhang Shuai in Thrilling China Open Clash

In a gripping third-round showdown at the China Open, American tennis star Amanda Anisimova edged past home favorite Zhang Shuai in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The 24-year-old Anisimova, currently ranked World No. 4, overcame a fierce challenge from the 36-year-old Zhang, securing a 7-6 (15-13), 6-0 victory in Beijing on Sunday.

Zhang, a veteran of the Chinese tennis circuit, started strong with a forehand winner to break for a 5-3 lead in the first set. However, Anisimova clawed back, forcing a tiebreaker that saw both players trade set points in a dramatic 28-point battle. Despite saving five set points, Zhang ultimately fell short as Anisimova clinched the opener with a backhand winner.

The second set showcased Anisimova's resurgence, with the two-time Grand Slam finalist dominating play and sealing the match with a decisive 6-0 scoreline. Her victory marks her 150th Tour-level win, joining an elite group of players born since 2000 to achieve the feat.

Zhang, reflecting on the match, acknowledged her physical struggles: "I told myself to play hard and avoid being swept away. I tried my best, but I ran out of energy." Anisimova will next face Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova in the round of 16.
