U.S. Weighs Tomahawk Missile Transfer to Ukraine Amid Escalation

U.S. Vice President JD Vance revealed on Sunday that the Biden administration is considering Ukraine's request for long-range Tomahawk missiles, a move that could significantly alter the dynamics of the ongoing conflict with Russia. The missiles, with a range of 2,500 km, would enable Ukrainian forces to target Russian military positions far beyond current capabilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a transfer mechanism involving European allies, urging the U.S. to sell the missiles to NATO partners who would then supply them to Kyiv. Vance emphasized that President Donald Trump will make the final decision, noting: "We're certainly looking at a number of requests from the Europeans."

The discussion follows one of Russia's most intense aerial assaults in months – a 12-hour barrage involving nearly 600 drones and dozens of missiles across seven Ukrainian regions. Zelenskyy confirmed at least four fatalities and 80 injuries, vowing retaliation while accusing Moscow of seeking to "continue fighting and killing."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed prospects for renewed peace talks on Monday, stating there are "no signals from Kyiv" about negotiations. The developments come as global markets monitor potential escalations that could impact energy supplies and regional stability.

Analysts suggest Tomahawk missiles could help Ukraine disrupt Russian logistics but warn of risks involving NATO-Russia tensions. The White House has previously resisted providing long-range strike capabilities to Kyiv.
