As the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2023, international students at Tsinghua University are sharing their unique experiences and perspectives on this ambitious project. The BRI, proposed by China in 2013, aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and beyond, following the ancient Silk Road trade routes to promote common development and prosperity.
At Tsinghua University, students from around the world have engaged with the BRI in various ways. Some have joined student associations focused on the initiative, while others were introduced to its concepts during their high school education. Shinna, a student from Singapore, recalled, “When I was in high school, everyone in my class, even the teachers, were very optimistic about the initiative. China is helping boost the economic vibrancy in Asia, and we really look forward to that.”
The BRI has emerged as a new model for international cooperation, demonstrating vitality and resilience in promoting global development through openness, inclusiveness, mutual benefits, and sustainability.
