Kenya's film industry is poised for global recognition if it prioritizes quality storytelling, Evans Ongor Mac'Osewe, a commissioner at the Kenya Film Commission, declared at the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival. In an interview with CGTN's Zhang Meng, Mac'Osewe emphasized that cinematic excellence could propel Kenyan productions to prestigious platforms like the Oscars.
"Quality dictates how far your movie can go," Mac'Osewe stated. "If we produce good quality, we will not be surprised to see our movies in the Oscars." He highlighted Kenya's untapped potential, including diverse filming locations and access to nearly 200 million Swahili-speaking viewers across East Africa.
The commissioner praised the festival as a "rare opportunity" for Kenya to strengthen international partnerships, calling the event a "vital platform" for cross-cultural exchange. He also thanked organizers for amplifying African voices in global cinema.
With its strategic focus on collaboration and high production standards, Kenya aims to position itself as a hub for filmmakers seeking authentic narratives and cost-effective resources. Analysts suggest this approach could attract investors eyeing Africa's growing creative economy.
