China Urges U.S. to Lift Tariffs for Trade Expansion

China has renewed calls for the United States to remove trade barriers, with Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yadong stating Thursday that canceling "unreasonable tariffs" would create vital momentum for bilateral economic cooperation. The appeal comes amid discussions about potential Chinese purchases of U.S. soybeans and Boeing aircraft.

"The biggest obstacle to normal economic and trade cooperation lies in U.S. unilateral restrictive measures," He emphasized during a press briefing. The spokesperson framed the relationship as fundamentally mutual, noting "broad common interests and vast space for cooperation" between the world's two largest economies.

Analysts suggest this development signals China's willingness to stabilize trade relations despite ongoing geopolitical tensions. The remarks align with recent efforts to revive dialogue channels disrupted by pandemic-era restrictions and strategic competition.

He concluded with a call for joint action: "It is hoped the United States will work in the same direction with China to create favorable conditions for stable, healthy, and sustainable development of bilateral trade relations."
