French Producer Ron Dyens on Storytelling’s Power to Unite Cultures

French film producer Ron Dyens, a juror at the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival, emphasized the unifying role of storytelling in a recent interview with CGTN’s Zhang Xiaohe. Speaking at the Fuzhou-based event, Dyens highlighted how narratives rooted in universal human experiences can bridge cultural divides and foster global understanding.

"Great stories speak to shared emotions – love, loss, hope," Dyens noted, pointing to animation as a medium that transcends language barriers. His remarks come as the festival showcases over 100 films from 35 countries and regions, including entries from the Chinese mainland, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.

The producer, known for his cross-cultural collaborations, stressed the importance of cultural exchange in today’s interconnected world. "When we recognize ourselves in others’ stories, it creates lasting connections," he said, underscoring the event’s role in promoting dialogue along historic trade routes.

Academics and industry analysts will find particular interest in Dyens’ observations about evolving audience preferences in Asian markets. The festival runs through November 28, featuring forums on technological innovations in filmmaking.
