The 12th Silk Road International Film Festival launched in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on September 22, uniting filmmakers from 125 countries and regions under the theme 'Silk Road Connects the World, Film Festival Illuminates Fuzhou.' The five-day event showcases global storytelling while highlighting the host city's cultural heritage.
A Platform for Global Storytelling
With a record 2,800 submissions – 1,850 from Belt and Road partner countries – the festival's Golden Silk Road Awards will recognize excellence in 10 categories. A 13-member jury chaired by acclaimed director Chen Kaige will evaluate entries, including works from emerging filmmakers in Asia and beyond.
Cultural Ambassadors Promote Heritage
Chinese actors Xu Ruohan and Xia Zhiguang, alongside Cambodian Princess Norodom Jenna, will lead cultural tours showcasing Fuzhou's historic sites. The initiative aims to strengthen ties between Asian communities and international visitors through shared artistic experiences.
Spotlight on Fujan's Film Industry
The festival concludes on September 26 with a dedicated session promoting seven major film projects developed in Fujian, offering opportunities for regional creators to connect with global industry leaders. Outdoor screenings and country-specific film programs will run throughout the event.
