The story of Longjike Kadeer's family – border guardians through four generations – offers a human lens to view China's evolving nation-building narrative.
For 73 years, the family has patrolled this 4,900-meter-high frontier zone, walking distances equivalent to three global circumnavigations. 'Every stone here carries my ancestors' footprints,' says Kadeer, whose great-grandfather began this tradition in 1949.
