China Launches Global Climate Dataset, Strengthens AI Ties with ASEAN

China Unveils First Global Climate Dataset

The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) announced the release of the CMA Global Climate Dataset at the 4th China-ASEAN Meteorological Cooperation Forum in Nanning. This marks China's first international sharing of high-value climate data, offering six categories of standardized global climate information, including satellite data and atmospheric reanalysis. The dataset aims to enhance early warning systems, disaster mitigation, and AI-driven climate research.

AI Collaboration for Weather Innovation

Alongside the dataset, the forum launched the China-ASEAN Joint Innovation Action for AI Meteorological Model Application. This initiative focuses on co-developing AI weather prediction tools to improve forecasts for typhoons and other severe events. Key priorities include data integration, talent development, and a shared platform dubbed the "China-ASEAN Meteorological Home."

Global Partnerships for Climate Resilience

Held under the theme "Digital Intelligence Empowers Meteorological Cooperation," the event gathered officials from ASEAN member states and the World Meteorological Organization. Participants emphasized AI's role in advancing the UN's "Early Warnings for All" initiative, highlighting cross-border collaboration as critical for climate resilience.
