China Explores Human Rights Progress Through Modernization Seminar

Nearly 100 scholars and policymakers convened in Jinan this week to examine how China's unique modernization path intersects with human rights advancements, offering fresh perspectives on governance models and global cooperation.

At the symposium organized by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, Professor Lu Guangjin highlighted that China's development approach has forged "a new form of human rights civilization" through poverty eradication and social welfare systems. The discussions emphasized practical implementations, from pension reforms in Shenyang to digital governance innovations.

Nankai University's Chang Jian outlined China's integration of democratic processes across policy-making stages, noting: "Whole-process people's democracy ensures leadership alignment with public will through structured consultation and oversight." Peking University's Luo Yanhua added that individual empowerment remains central to modernization goals, with measurable improvements in education access and economic participation.

Participants unanimously recognized Chinese modernization's global implications, particularly its emphasis on development-driven rights protection and multilateral cooperation. The event concluded with calls for enhanced academic exchanges to address contemporary challenges in human rights governance.

Key organizers included Shandong University's law faculty, reinforcing academic institutions' role in policy development.
