China has taken another leap in its space technology ambitions with the successful launch of an experimental satellite designed to advance satellite internet capabilities. The spacecraft, deployed Tuesday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, marks a critical step in the country's push to develop next-generation communication infrastructure.
The Long March-2C carrier rocket, equipped with the Yuanzheng-1S upper stage, delivered the satellite into its predetermined orbit. Developed by commercial aerospace firm Galaxy Space, this launch adds to the company's growing constellation of 35 satellites in low-Earth orbit, including China's pioneering batch of broadband communication satellites.
This mission aligns with broader efforts to integrate space-based technologies with terrestrial networks. Recent developments include smartphones capable of direct satellite communication and the ongoing construction of China's first space-based computing satellite constellation—projects positioning the country at the forefront of commercial space innovation.
