The 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) opened in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Wednesday, marking a milestone in regional economic collaboration. With all inbound exhibits arriving ahead of schedule, organizers highlighted streamlined logistics and customs measures to ensure seamless participation from ASEAN members.
Nanning Customs implemented 15 efficiency-boosting measures, including dedicated clearance channels for exhibition goods, to facilitate the display of ASEAN specialty foods, cosmetics, and industrial products. Pang Xiaoning, a senior customs official, emphasized these efforts as part of China's commitment to fostering 'win-win partnerships' with Southeast Asian economies.
New data from China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) reveals robust trade momentum: bilateral goods trade with ASEAN grew 9.7% year-on-year to 4.93 trillion yuan ($678 billion) in the first eight months of 2024. ASEAN retained its position as China's largest trading partner, accounting for 16.7% of China's total foreign trade.
GACC official Lyu Daliang noted that China-ASEAN trade has expanded for 18 consecutive months, with the expo and ongoing CAFTA 3.0 negotiations expected to accelerate supply chain integration and digital economy cooperation. 'This expo isn't just about trade volume—it's about building resilient, future-ready economic ecosystems,' he stated.
Over 1,500 enterprises from 45 countries and regions are participating, with ASEAN pavilions showcasing innovations in green energy, smart manufacturing, and agricultural technology. Analysts predict the event will catalyze new cross-border investment flows, particularly in emerging sectors aligned with China's dual-carbon goals.
