CIFTIS 2025: Shaping Global Trade Rules Through Innovation

The 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) has concluded with a bold new identity, transforming from a conventional trade exhibition into a global laboratory for shaping the rules of tomorrow's digital economy. This evolution underscores China's expanding role in international governance and the growing complexity of cross-border services trade.

From Showcase to Strategy Hub

Under the theme 'Embrace Intelligent Technologies, Empower Trade in Services,' this year's event attracted over 70 countries and regions, along with 2,000 exhibitors – including 500 Fortune Global 500 companies. The fair spotlighted 190 technological breakthroughs, from 3D-printed vascular stents to quantum computing prototypes, presented through immersive demonstrations of AI-driven biopharmaceutical systems and 5G smart city applications.

Redrawing the Digital Trade Map

The Digital Trade Development and Cooperation Report 2025 released at CIFTIS predicts artificial intelligence will revolutionize three key areas: trade methods, traded goods, and market participation. This technological shift is accelerating global efforts to establish new regulatory frameworks for digital commerce.

Building the Rulebook

Policy initiatives took center stage, including the launch of the 'Guide on Trade in Services Data and Policies for Developing Countries' and standardized trade practice case studies. The establishment of an International Organization for Standardization Liaison Center aims to help Chinese businesses navigate evolving global compliance requirements.

Economic Momentum

Recent data reveals China's services trade reached 4.58 trillion yuan ($640 billion) in the first seven months of 2025, with knowledge-intensive services accounting for 1.77 trillion yuan ($248.6 billion). The 12.6% growth in telecom and IT services highlights the sector's increasing digitalization.
