China, Switzerland Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties with High-Level Exchange

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Swiss Confederation President Karin Keller-Sutter exchanged congratulatory messages on Sunday, commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The exchange highlighted decades of economic collaboration and mutual respect, underscoring Switzerland's role as one of the first Western countries to recognize the People's Republic of China.

In his message, Xi emphasized the 'strategic significance' of bilateral ties, noting Switzerland's pioneering status as a 'priority innovation partner' for China. Keller-Sutter praised the relationship as a 'model of constructive dialogue,' referencing Switzerland's early adoption of a free trade agreement with the Chinese mainland in 2014.

Trade between the two nations reached $63.2 billion in 2023, with Swiss investments in China growing 12% year-on-year. Analysts point to shared priorities in green technology and financial innovation as key drivers for future collaboration, particularly in advancing sustainable development goals.

The anniversary comes as both countries prepare for high-level dialogues on artificial intelligence governance and climate resilience, signaling continued alignment on global challenges.
