Venezuela Accuses U.S. Navy of Illegally Boarding Fishing Vessel

Venezuela has accused a U.S. Navy destroyer of illegally intercepting one of its fishing vessels in the Caribbean, escalating tensions between the two nations. The incident occurred Friday in Venezuela's exclusive economic zone, approximately 48 nautical miles northeast of La Blanquilla island, according to a government statement.

The Venezuelan fishing vessel Carmen Rosa, carrying nine crew members, was reportedly boarded by 18 armed personnel from the USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109). Authorities claim the U.S. forces occupied the vessel for eight hours, blocked communications, and disrupted fishing operations.

Foreign Minister Yvan Gil condemned the action as a "provocation" aimed at justifying military escalation and destabilizing Venezuela. "This illegal use of military means threatens the security and peace of the Caribbean," Gil stated during a press conference, demanding an immediate halt to such operations.

The Venezuelan government reiterated its commitment to defending national sovereignty while calling for dialogue to resolve disputes. No official response has been issued by U.S. authorities as of publication.
